Why I still favour Yahoo ...

In the past few months I've been looking for an alternative to my existing Yahoo web hosting plans. Not that there's anything wrong with Yahoo - I just wanted to not have all my eggs in one basket.

Although there are some niggling faults with Yahoo web hosting - like the fact that you can only have a certain number of sites on one username or credit card - the overwhelming benefits still outweigh other systems that I've come across.

The complicated nature of some website creation software is just crazy - and although I've found sites with great templates - they don't have the flexibility to create the sort of website that visitors will like that's easy to change and update.

The closest thing I've found, that I like almost as much as Yahoo, is using Blogger or Wordpress to create information sites. Again they both have limitations, but are designed for the non-technically minded to be able to update and use. I first found out about them from Rob Benwell's "Blogging to the Bank" - and whilst my success in making money with blogging is far more modest than Rob's - his information on how to set up a Blog that the search engines like and can find is very useful.

You'll find that both Blogger and Wordpress are free to use - though they are not without their problems - it's not unknown for your blog to disappear overnight because it is considered spam!

That notwithstanding, by following some simple rules, you can find that they offer a really good alternative to the usual web site hosting plans that you can find on the internet.

Cheap web hosting information -

In our search for cheap web hosting information, we've now found Lonex.

With Lonex offering great & affordable web hosting - their real PLUS point is that they offer support 24/7. If you've ever been stuck trying to upload your site or sort out a hosting problem only to find that you've only got an email address or worse still an automated system for leaving an e-message - you'll already know the value of this!

Like an increasing number of web hosting companies, they are also offering a free website builder and the usual inclusion of a free domain name.

At a disgracefully cheap starting price of $4.95 this is one web host not to overlook. Combine that with their 60 day back money-back satisfaction guarantee and Lonex are certainly worth checking out.

A useful & affordable solution for hosting your site on the web

Here's my review of Vodahost's affordable web hosting plans.

Running on Dell Poweredge servers, this is a company which prides itself in being trustworthy and reliable.

In addition to the usual fare served up by the hosting companies, Vodahost offers unlimited domain names and websites per account, together with FrontPage extensions & Dreamweaver Compatibility. Unusually, they also offer free affiliate program software .

Their shopping cart and merchant account also put them ahead of the game in terms of service and provision - and if you're looking for a host that can support your delivery of e-Books, they also have a digital delivery system.

Their attractively designed site is also easy to navigate and not too confusing!

Cheap web hosting information

If you're on a budget and are looking for cheap web hosting, here's some information that you may find helpful in your search. I've been looking around for good, yet cheap web hosting companies that will deliver excellent service for my new domains and also companies that I would recommend to subscribers of my newsletter .

DreamHost offer managed web hosting for $7.95, including domain name registration. You can also host unlimited domains.

Web Wizards have a reputation for a friendly service with a very clear page explaining pricing detail for each hosting plan. Their basic plans starts at $6 and they are rather unusual in offering a money back guarantee for the first 30 days.

It's worth considering whether you want one or more domains, as prices start to differ widely if you want just one company to host a number of domain names.

Free Yahoo Sitebuilder statistics with Weblog Expert Lite

Here's another reason why you might wish to consider a reliable web hosting company such as Yahoo. One of my sites is hosted with a UK based company and a couple of days ago I noticed that visits to the site had dropped dramatically for no reason.

This is the Yahoo page giving your site statistics for the past week - as you can see, they suddenly plummet!

After much agonising over whether I'd been dropped by the search engines, I realised that the domain name had expired and the web hosting company had failed to contact me to renew it. ]

By the way, I quickly checked my search engine rankings using SEO Elite so could see that my rankings in the key search engines was unaffected. I was also able to view my Weblog statistics to check whether one page or all my pages were affected - which helped me to finally work out what the problem was.

If you're wondering why I didn't notice that the site was up, it's worth noting that when a website closes, it takes a few hours or sometimes a couple of days for this to permeate right across the internet. So although my site looked as if it was present to me, it wasn't available in the countries where my major market is.

Once I contacted them it took a few hours before the site was back up and running again. This was a busy time for me, so I reckon that I probably lost around $150 worth of traffic - and all because the hosting company didn't remind me to renew!

It really is worth going with a reliable hosting company who will deliver good service as well as value for money.

Create & design your own Yahoo store

This great eBook from Andy & Audrey Kerwood was one of the very first books that I downloaded when setting up my internet business. They are still the experts on setting up an online store.

This great book literally provides a step by step guide for idiots. Just as well, when I set up my store I hadn't even signed up for a Yahoo web hosting account yet! Using screen shots and very clear instructions, Andy & Audrey take you through the process of signing up for a Yahoo store, adding your items, even running an online store without evening having any goods to sell (through your own home business in dropshipping)

If you've got a product to sell online or just want to make money online, check out their book "How to create a profitable e-commerce store" at their Online Store Profits site.

Yahoo Web Hosting for your online business

How to set up your online business with Yahoo

There are literally thousands of companies keen to host your new website. If you are not sure how to set up a website, but are looking for a simple way to set it up, try Yahoo Small Business. You can set up a site with them quickly and easily and they also provide the Yahoo Sitebuilder software which is easy to use and included free. They also provide an online store facility with payment via Paypal, if you are going to be selling goods.

Yyou may thought about your website name and have a few ideas of what names you might choose. You'll need to see if that name is available or get some suggestions for other ideas. If what you have chosen is not available, you might consider adding “online” or “home” to the name.

I have found Yahoo to be a reliable company for webhosting. They also provide free software to create a website, you won't need to buy anything to create or publish your site. It all comes as part of the package. Right now, there's a special deal on, so if you just want to register your new domain name - it's just $2.95 for a whole year, or if you want to start a website, it's just $8.95 per month.

Yahoo also supply some really good statistics on who has visited your page and you can download the Weblog Expert to get a detailed breakdown of which pages are most popular and what "keywords" people are typing into the search engines.

For this reason, I'd recommend them to anyone. Not least because my daughter (she's just 18) had her own site up and running within an hour. If she can do it, I know anybody can.
